We have been breeding rabbits since 2013, and are loving every minute of it! We first got interested in raising rabbits for meat. We did some research, built a rabbit coop and purchased some breeders from a couple in North Port Florida. Back 2 Basics Rabbitry was born.
Once we had them we found out how amazing rabbit scat is. It's the only manure that doesn't need to be composted before use. We take the rabbit waste and throw it straight into the garden. When we don't need it in the garden we store it in 5 gallon buckets, the ants make homes and turn it to a mulch like texture. In return the rabbits get fresh greens from the garden. Their favorites are broccoli, and collards.
We then started looking into breed standards, we want to make sure we're breeding quality stock, even if it's mostly for meat. We got interested in showing our rabbits to, again, ensure that they were top quality. And the best way to do that is to have them judged by someone who knows rabbits.
We also are the home of the New Zealand Cream and New Zealand Tortoise rabbit. We will be working in the future to have the colors recognized by the American Rabbit Breeders Association.
